Approaches to integrate metacognitive strategies into everyday teaching As part of everyday teaching, some of the most common strategies used to embed metacognitive strategies are: Explicit teaching With a focus on activating prior knowledge, introducing new knowledge and skills, modelling the application of knowledge and skills, and providing ample opportunity for independent practice and reflection. This shows that students who are able to determine their own learning strategies and apply them continuously will affect their learning outcomes. This ensures that they are less likely to experience cognitive overload, allowing them to move on to higher-level thinking. One thing I have noticed over the year during both my educational and professional career is that individuals process information and learn differently. Schraw, G.

Although metacognition is about students taking control of their own learning, a teacher is still required to help them develop skills and strategies in order to do so.
